Tropical Storm Ernesto was the BIG One during the 2006 Atlantic hurricane season, but he was a far cry from the devastating storms of 2005. He reached hurricane strength very briefly before brushing Haiti and passing over Cuba. After a short hop from Cuba to the Florida mainland, which kept him from gathering additional strength, he moved on to the East Coast, where he brought heavy rains and flooding to South Carolina and Virginia. Ernesto’s total devastation of several hundred million dollars was a major portion of the damage for the season.
