HISTORIC EVENT - First Lowe’s Katrina Cottage
Working together with several other organizations, including Southern Mutual Help Association, and the United Way of Acadiana, and with volunteers from around the country, VFCC has participated in a Historic Event - the construction of the FIRST Lowe’s Katrina Cottage ever built for a client. This house is being built for Ms. Karen Keeve in Abbeville. It will be completed in June 2007.

“Project Erath” - Case Closed
The home of Mrs. Patricia Trahan in Erath, eventually known as “Project Erath,” was seriously damaged by Rita’s storm surge. Volunteers from Nova Scotia and Louisiana, and a number of organizations, including VFCC and Southern Mutual Help Association, collaborated on the repair and recovery process, which was completed in November 2006.

Rita cleanup begins
Mark and Anna, two students from the Student Volunteer Council of Princeton University, work on ‘de-mucking’ a house near Henry, La., that was severely damaged by Hurricane Rita’s storm surge. Rita recovery efforts
VFCC has been taking an active part in the cleanup and repair efforts needed by local victims of Hurricane Rita. By mid-December, almost 200 volunteers had passed through our Volunteer Reception Center and gone out to work at over 60 local homes.
