Frequently Asked Questions
It's normal to have questions about a therapist or before starting with a therapy practice. Here are some answers to the most commonly asked questions we’ve received from clients before they started their journeys.
-
What will take place during my initial evaluation? To make the most of our time together, it's helpful when first-time patients are ready to discuss these topics during our initial meeting: Significant events in your life that have contributed to the issue(s) you are seeking help for What goals you want to achieve Feelings and/or behaviors attached to your issue(s)
-
How many sessions will I need? Each client has a unique background, distinct goals, and varying availability, so every treatment plan is different. Some clients see progress quickly while others may prefer to work slower and more deliberately. Victory Formation is committed to empowering you by providing the necessary life skills and tools you can take with you beyond your therapy sessions. It is neither ethical, nor in your best interest, to keep you longer than you need help.
-
Are my sessions confidential?Victory Formation considers confidentiality one of the key components of the therapeutic relationship. Your stories and personal feelings are your privilege to share and completely yours to entrust within the confines of your sessions. If you prefer the virtual session approach, you have complete control of the location and environment around you. Prior to your first session, you will review and sign a Client Services Agreement. This agreement includes Informed Consent and clarifies how information is shared and kept confidential. Please note that there are a few exceptions to the limitations of confidentiality, in accordance with Delaware state law as well as professional ethics and guidelines: If I believe you are at risk of hurting yourself or another person, I am obligated to protect you or the other person involved from potential harm. If I suspect child or elder abuse, I am required to report any relevant information to the proper authorities. If I am subpoenaed for court, I may be required to disclose confidential information. Every effort will be made to uphold and protect your rights. You will be notified of the subpoena prior to any disclosure.
-
For adolescents and teens, does a parent or guardian attend the sessions? For an initial evaluation, I ask that the parent(s) or guardian(s) attend with their child. I will then follow up and meet with the child for their own initial evaluation on a different day. After the initial evaluation, the child is usually the only one attending the session(s).
-
What is a licensed therapist? As a licensed therapist and a National Certified Counselor, I have met all of the state and national requirements to hold and maintain a professional license. The process of getting licensed takes years of education, thousands of hours of experience, and passing a national exam. Licensed therapists have earned their credentials and often have niches and specialties.
-
Do you offer online/teletherapy? How does it work?Yes, I offer a virtual office (telehealth) to make therapy more accessible and flexible in today’s rapidly changing world. If you have transportation issues, scheduling conflicts, or health concerns making it difficult to accommodate in-person sessions, teletherapy may be the best option for you. Here is how teletherapy works: As with a traditional office session, we'll schedule a time to meet. Ahead of your appointment, you'll receive a link to join a private video call. When it's time for your appointment, click the link to begin our session. You will see me appear on your screen, and your session will progress as it normally would in-person. For teletherapy to be beneficial, it is important to have a reliable internet connection and a private, quiet space to talk with limited distractions.
-
How can athletes and non-athletes benefit from Sports Psychology and Performance Coaching? The reality is that non-athletes face the same problems in their lives as athletes. Regardless of our stage of life, we are constantly being asked to perform – mentally and physically. Whether you are an athlete or not, identifying and applying psychological principles can help facilitate your peak performance.
-
